En Swaasa Kaatre - Get drenched in this wonderful composition :)

“En swasa kaatre” is one of my all time favorite album of the musical genius A R Rahman. All the tracks in this album were outstanding, each one a masterpiece in itself. This album as always is quite popular among all Rahmaniacs. But others, here I am not generalizing, but with many of them, music is only as good as the movie. And since the movie happened to have bombed at the box office, not many of them enjoy the music as they ought to. I can do nothing but pity them, for they are losing out one of the best compositions of Rahman. Here is a brief review of two tracks from the album. The rest will follow in the next post :) 

1 ) En Swasa Kaatre:

The title track is one of the best melodies composed by Rahman. This is a perfect song in the sense that it has everything, excellent music, beautiful lyrics backed by two great voices. Vaali’s lyrics add much beauty to the song (This goes for all the songs in this album). Most part of the song is just a soothing instrumental (mostly veena) and a beautiful humming by Chitra. This being M G Sreekumar’s first tamil song (I think, but 1st song for Rahman for sure), he has rendered it quite beautifully. He sings it so beautifully that you are lost in a world far away from everything else. This remains one of my most favorite songs till date for its pure melody. Here are the lyrics for this song.

This is my next most favortite track from this album. Again a wonderful composition and this song is a must listen for any music lover. A song which is a perfect choice to listen on a rainy day. Again M G Sreekumar has done a justice to this song by his beautiful rendering. The lyrics are excellent with each line exposing nature in all its beauty and splendor. An amazing track which will remain in the hearts of Rahmaniacs for eternity.

ARR ALL THE WAY ....

25th film fare award (2 awards this year) , 2 Oscars , Golden globe and BAFTA ! What a way to go ? ARR is no wonder a Musical Genius , a genius who despite all the awards and accolades remain rooted to the ground , self composed ,soft spoken and most important truly spiritual ( i am not talking about being religious). 

Double dhamaka 's all the way for ARR again ! Yes!! 54th Filmfare award for the Best composer and Best background score is for ARR again ! Jodha Akbar and Jaane tu ya Jaane na ... well Composer choice had been tough with ARR competining with himself that too 3 ARR :) So anyways this surely is a way to go ...25 awards in all Filmfare :) am sure the next year sure award too. 

What a score - Jodha Akbar ! 

Even now i recollect , it was this same time last year i had been for ARR concert at Chennai and the songs he sang there .. :) 

Elated , well i dont have any other word to say , it really was and is always a memory i would cherish .Jodha Akbar , a movie which has many credits to it , right from the grandeur and the effort and must say , a perfect cast of stars - Hrithik especially . (Well aish ,  i would have even felt Rani would have been better :)) 

And Jaane tu ya Jaane na -A movie that is youthful and the music does make it even more youthful in every sense. All ' Aditi's' of this world would have just thanked ARR for making them so sweet and famous .. 

Every song of that movie was a sure hummable song -  i am sure even non Rahmaniacs ... would love the album .. 

Actually the year 2008 had seen 8 releases of Rahman sir. 

1.Ada - an album that was lost because the movie never hit the screens ! But a must hear for every music lover especially Rahmaniacs . 

2. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na - A youthful ,sprightly album that steals every single heart . Be it aditi or pappu it weaved a magic. 

3.Jodha Akbar - What an album . Divinity in Rahman is seen and felt in the songs. I am not just talking of Khwaja mere Khwaja but then the entire album had an eternal divinity in it. Jashne bahare, in lamhon , man mohana ... it leaves one speechless. 

4.Al Rasiah - Maharba ya mustapha .. what a song. One can feel Rahman's spiritual strenghth in that .

5.Sakkarakatti - A movie in tamil , that is only known because of Rahman's music . Even the posters show Rahman's photos to say that the movie is there :D Such a stupid movie ( i have not attempted /risked to watch that movie after the feedbacks i recieved) but the movie probably was known just for the amazing songs by Rahman. A few songs were the same track by Rahman himself , the ones he used in his other movie - Meenaxi - tale of three cities. 

6.Yuvvraaj - A Subash Ghai movie! As usual just superb album , must buy album. It is a musical journey indeed. 

7. Ghajini - What an album . Aamir and Rahman with Prasoon joshi .. no way can it be less better. The movie is a tamil Hit Ghajini's remake which had Surya and Asin as lead pair and the music was by Harris Jeyraj. The hindi remake had Rahman for music and Aamir was to play Surya's character. Obviously the movie heaped lots of expectations with the tamil being a super duper hit . Though some people felt tamil was better esp those who had watched tamil and heard the scores, i guess the music did justice for the movie. Behka was different and innovative and great . Guzarish , Kaise mujhe , latto! well Ghajini did rock.

8. Slum Dog Millionaire - Well what to say about this. The movie and the scores did fit in aptly . Jai Ho ! has become the word that is there in every body's mind . Jai ho ! song sounded like Ella pughazum iraivanukke .. from Azhagiya tamil magan and truly all praises to the Almighty cos this movie has given Rahman what he desvered long ago , the Oscar , the BAFTA , the Golden globe and most important more and more Hollywood offers.

Rahman would without doubt weave magic and would make the westerners also ' dance and hum his tune' :) 

Looking forward for the Indian movies he is working on at the moment especially the one with Mani Ratnam, the magic movie maker who introduced and gave Rahman his break in to Indian film. 

Well anyways take care and enjoy the music of life just as you enjoy the music by Rahman!

MUSICAL PRAYER !

Music is a religion to reach the universal truth called Love ! 

Yes a real music would soothe the soul and makes one feel in an ethereal world . 

So is the new music from Dilli- 6 ! A.R.Rahman , with the Oscar in pipeline( Am waiting for Feb22nd) !!!:) is not just a genius , he is a treasure , who can weave magic with his music . 

I always wonder how does , every thing he composes has some level of quality , even though it neednot be his best  , there would be some element in it that would make it surely different from the rest . Every song is journey , or may be a path that takes us through a world . I am sure he is the one who has rightly used the talents of many singers and yes attempted using new voices, experiment and most important give credits to every single person involved with the song/album/movie!

His simplicity , his nature is what makes him more likeable and most important stand out from the rest . 

Was reading an article here in a magazine called TIME,which spoke about Faith and prayer and its effect in a man's life !I believe Rahman's success is imparted to his prayers. He meditates and that transcends his waves to a level , which finally brings out music of such rare quality and divinity. 

He says that Sufism was the one which changed the way he lived and that transformation changed his life . I am sure it is not just Sufism that changed him , it is the undying faith he had in it . Be it any form or path we follow , all we require is FAITH and our prayer works in only FAITH.

ARR , an epitome of goodness be it in his nature or his music .... he is just AMAZING. 

Wishing Oscars come his way not just with Slumdog but always , many more of his best compositions be it in Indian or western movie/music front let him be thanked for giving us such soulful melodies to relax and yes meditate !:)

AWARDS AND AWARDS - ITS JUST A BEGINNING ! OSCARS AND BAFTA TOO SURE 4 ARRAHMAN!!

A long time it has been on this page , this special page for music. But now with my most favourite Composer , singer and human being , ARRahman is painting the world with his music , weaving a chant with his magic i thought it is better i pour my thoughts and speak my heart for my dearest and favourite ARRahman!. 

Sometimes it is a fact though tough to accept , is true and perfectly usual thing to happen. There would be some single small thing that suddenly becomes the talk of the town and it grows to rule the world at least for a few days . 

Similarly , the movie industry or may be better said as the entertainment industry is thrilled with the box office hits abroad by SlumDog Millionaire ! A title true to the movie's impact , in all spheres be it the cast , the direction , the screeplay , the author of the book which is used as adaptation and most important the music by the Legend , ARRahman is finally heard and looked at by the people all over the world. Even though he has been a popular  the west never rightly recognised him and his tremendous works . Now since this Indian music is used in a movie adapted from Indian novel by Indian diplomat ,set in Indian backdrop , and has an entire set of Indian actors , only to be directed by a Britisher and a screenplay by yet another Westerner ! 

Now the Q&A, authored by Vikas Swarup now is one of the Bestseller , the movie with Indian concepts and actors has reaped more than its profit lines in the West . The Indian music composer though known and admired has finally been awarded the GOLDEN GLOBE AWARD, an award that he deserved long back. ARRahman has been nominated for the OSCAR , there is a triple dhamaka ! 

Though there is a lot of hype and hoopla created for this movie and the winning of Golden Globe and the nominations in OSCAR and BAFTA has added to it by ARRahman being shown in all channels and in some way or other being praised for the success. 

True he MUST BE PRAISED AND SURELY ADORED ( AS I DO) for he truly deserves more than just OSCAR and BAFTA . His music is a magic. I only feel bad that the music of Lagaan , Rang De Basanti , Roja , Bombay , Kannathil Muthamital had not been thought about by the Westerners when they have been class in their style. (WELL it is not for Rahman's music alone , even Mani Ratnam's many a movie were most deserving as this SDM!)

Lagaan though nominated for Oscars was not appreciated it was a foreign film entry and didnt get what it deserved. 

ARRahman , surely is a musician , a singer and most important a human being and soul beyond comparison. 

This Slum Dog Millionaire is atleast reaping him all rewards what he must have got  long back. yet looking back it does make us think why only an Oscar and Grammy needs the Western base to be honoured? 

I truly believe that 2 Oscars are sure for ARRahman * if he gets the third too Godwilling , it is most happiest occassion for every Indian who loves music and most important a Rahmaniac!)

I can still feel the happiness 'Pudhu vellai mazhai" falling on me , the tu bin feel of ethereal world that stirs my soul, a Roobaroo, a rain lashing as in Ghanan Ghanan and a khwaja khwaja that soothes my soul. 

But whether Rahman has the Oscars ( he surely will) or not he surely is a musician worth more than this Adulation and admiration. It is only that He s a man whose other name is Music! My wish , a very strong desire is to meet him and sing atleast  7 tracks for him!! i mean 7 songs :) why 7 ? i am not sure just woule love to be a part of his music once .... at least 

Wishing God , to bless this world with more of his best music to heal the soul , bring in peace , i wish Rahman sir and his family wonderful and most happiest times as always and yes Oscars and Bafta his way .....

Roja, Rahman and I ... The beginning of a new musical journey - Era!! 

There have been many times when i have felt a 'fleeting desire' to cry, dance , sing , smile all without any botheration about where i am or whom i am with. Not all music or musicians have that ability to bring out that feel in any audience or listener. Sometimes it grows in you like a dream , happy , soulful , very passionate , well sometimes beyond words... There are many songs which touch a chord in the heart .. hmm nah! soul of the listener. It could very well become important with the expressions brought out by the singer, the sound engineer who makes it sound great and has maintained the goodness of the music and also the lyrics.

Then last (at least for me) comes the picturisation of the song . It really doesnt matter to me cos when i listen i immediately visualise the feel the singer has tried to bring , the passion of the director and the lyrics. So if the picturisation is great then it only adds on .. doesnt really matter to me . 

Among the very famous composers i adore (would be a small word to express my devotion) A.R.Rahman. He is a man who has always been a kind of inspiration for the style and the class of music he composes. So why dont i start with a person whom i adore? Yes Rahman. 

Well i have many favourites in music composing and singing ... but Rahman is someone unbeatable... and yes 1st .. (Raveendran and devaraj maash are also there but in a different list) .Yes i agree his style is different but then he has been able to blend the Indian soul in with western beats and i guess he has always made sure that you grow listening to his music and you surely fall in love :).

This post is only about ROJA , the movie directed by Mani Ratnam , that brought Rahman - the genius to the World !Roja the musical genius of Rahman 

I was hardly 8-9 years when this music released . I surely didnt listen to the songs as i do now when a Rahman music is out. Those days of Doordarshan the Chitrahaar and other programs which really did give some insight on what were the new releases. But after a year or two when i could hear the songs of the entire movie i was just so thrilled to even say to my friends of having heard the songs. It was like a feel that cannot be expressed. The best song i loved then was the Chinna Chinna Asai and the Kaadhal Rojave, which i could hear often. SPB uncle just took me off in that song .
Times have passed now it is 16 years after the music but still this movie makes my hair stand every time i listen to that .Roja has been listed in the Top 100 albums as per the TIME magazine. Well ratings or accreditions apart , this is defintely one of the BEST albums ever heard and Rahman the genius was posssible only because of this . All Rahmaniacs would be indebted to Mr.Mani Ratnam for this album else Rahman in one of the best movie would not have been possible. 

1. Chinna Chinna Aasai /Dil hai Chota sa - This is a song anyone would want to hum. For the lyrics and the song is just as great as 'great' can be . This song is a happy song and the way it has been rendered by a debutant (track singer) Minimini is really amazing . I am sure every one in the studio during the time when this song must have recorded would have started humming . Such is the songs recall that one would not forget the tune. and more one listens more one loves . The opening note is just great . You unknowingly tap your feet and don a smile .

2.Yeh haseen vaadiyan / Pudhu vellai mazhai - A song that would make you rooted to a spot . What a song man! It has many specials . It helped Sujatha chechi make a come back and made Unni menon get more name for his talent. It is amazingly picturised and you wonder is this the Kashmir that is painted now with blood and gore! A soulful song that has amazing beats throughout . It is my most favourite.

3.Rukumani ... - Both the languages it starts in the same verse. It is a song which is really cute and amazing beats in between. But though i didnt personally prefer the lyrics in hindi , when i heard it really is one of the beautiful songs ever composed. Rahman has used the best of all the instruments and am sure each one of the instrumentalists would have enjoyed working with him.

4.Kaadhal Rojave /Roja Jaane man - A song that makes one cry .. The singer in SPB  sir/uncle:)does  magic every time he is asked to sing. His expressions really take you to a world beyond thoughts. It is very easy to relate to the feel of the song when someone like SPB uncle sings. There are very few singers like him (Dasettan is another such genius). The lyrics and the way song has been composed just makes one relate to the sad, depressed yet handsome Arvindswamy . The music in between the pallavi and Anu pallavi. and the one before charanam is just great . The hindi version by Hariharan is also as great as SPB uncle but yes their styles do vary but they have rendered the song beautifully. If i were to choose between SPB and Hariharan though i love both i guess i would go with the tamil one for the way Roja.. is sung by SPB uncle makes one cry towards the end.

5.Bharath humko jaan se / Tamizha Tamizha - The best patriotic song . I dont know how could Rahman maintain the beauty and magic of his compostions all in one album !! It is really a wonderful number and in tamil it is by SPB uncle and hindi as usual Hariharan. Amazing lyrics that makes one feel the goosebumps on ones hands. The song s one that each one must listen as the need for being united and not waging useless wars ! In between this soft number there would be a fast and agressive verse which just makes you feel the love for motherland.Then it slowly fades away only to start again with the soft voice of the singers .. Tamizha .......

My Rating for the album obviously would be 5 star - Definitely Outstanding.

Tamil - Roja :1. Tamizha/Pudhu vellai, 2. Chinna /Kadhal Rojave/Rukumani.:) cant surely say one is better than others! 

I dont know about others but we at home have a daily dose of  Rahman music every day and for sure Roja at least one song from this album is a must. 

Music is the best blessing one can get ....

Hi 

On this Diwali day , i thought why dont i start with something that i always wanted to do ! 

Yes a blog for music and dance.....

Dance and music is a way of life . Without music we would never have a LIFE .. perhaps we may be alive but with no LIFE! 

It is rightly said by someone that Music is enough for a lifetime but a lifetime is not enough for music !How true. 

I am sure in the whole world or may be the universe there wouldnt be any 'soul' who would frown listening to the most wonderful music .

It is a proven fact that even animals, plants , trees and babies respond to music.

Why even diseases can be eased and cured with music. 

Music is one thing that no one would detest ( if at all any then i must say He/she is IMPOSSIBLE !)  

I just cant imagine if there would be a world without music . Nature herself is a wonderful musician .. 

We sing to forget our woes. Gods are pleased when we sing for Them. The heart just beams when we listen to any beautiful song.

Dance is also a form of penance just like music . A dancer would surely appreciate music as without it the dance would never be complete. It is also called the poetry of foot !

Dance is that form of art which probably balances the mind soul and the body . The difference between dance and music is only the way the balance is brought. For music its more of an exercise for the vocal chord and dance its more physical movement. 

Music and dance both are forms of 'upasana' - a penance /prayer..

There could be different genres of music and interest towards each would be an individual's preference.

I would love to dedicate this blog to each one of you who loves music , dance , appreciate good forms of both and enjoy it from their heart and soul!!!
